Position Summary
The Driver provides safe, reliable transportation for staff, visitors, and materials, ensures vehicle maintenance, follows traffic regulations, and supports field logistics to make operations effective.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
1. Transportation Services (40%)
-
Drive staff, visitors, and authorized personnel safely to locations.
-
Transport goods, materials, and documents as required.
-
Plan efficient travel routes considering traffic and fuel economy.
-
Support field visits across Rwanda.
-
Assist with luggage/materials loading and ensure passenger comfort.
2. Vehicle Maintenance & Care (25%)
-
Conduct daily inspections (fuel, oil, water, tyres, brakes, lights).
-
Maintain clean vehicle interior & exterior.
-
Report mechanical issues promptly and coordinate servicing.
-
Ensure insurance, road tax, and inspection certificates are valid.
-
Keep emergency equipment (first aid kit, fire extinguisher) ready.
3. Safety & Compliance (15%)
-
Follow Rwanda traffic laws & organizational policies.
-
Ensure passengers follow safety protocols.
-
Keep valid driving license & vehicle documents.
-
Report accidents or traffic violations immediately.
-
Avoid unauthorized passengers; abstain from substances affecting driving.
4. Administrative Support (10%)
-
Maintain vehicle logbook for trips, mileage, fuel.
-
Submit receipts, maintenance invoices, and reports timely.
-
Assist with office errands (bank, post office, document delivery).
5. Logistics Support (10%)
-
Support procurement by collecting quotations, supplies, and delivering materials.
-
Assist with loading/unloading of programme materials.
-
Help organize transport for workshops, trainings, and events.
Success Measures / KPIs

Zero accidents due to driver negligence.
-
Full compliance with traffic laws & policies.
-
Vehicle maintained in good condition.
-
All trips completed on time with positive feedback.
-
Accurate logbook & documentation.
-
Efficient fuel usage.
-
Timely reporting of issues or incidents.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
-
Minimum O’Level certificate; vocational training advantageous.
-
Valid Rwanda driving license (B minimum; D/E preferred).
-
3+ years professional driving, preferably with NGOs.
-
Clean driving record, knowledge of Rwanda roads.
-
Basic vehicle maintenance skills.
-
Flexible for early mornings, evenings, weekends.
-
Communication: English + Kinyarwanda (French advantageous).
-
Physically fit for loading/unloading and long-distance travel.
Desirable:
-
Defensive/advanced driving & first aid certification.
-
Experience with 4x4 vehicles, rural terrain.

NGO/humanitarian experience.

Basic computer literacy.

Travel & Work Environment
